VEMA LIFT AB: S&N CARDAN DELIVERS RELIABLE QUALITY FOR THE OPERATION OF FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT

Vema Lift AB is a significant player in the international fire protection equipment market and has delivered nearly one thousand high‑quality units worldwide.
The company’s modern aerial platforms are specifically designed for the demanding conditions of firefighting and rescue operations. Vema Lift offers a wide range of customized solutions tailored to meet the individual needs of fire brigades.

S&N Cardan has been supplying PTO Shafts to Vema Lift for more than a decade.
The PTO Shafts are always manufactured as custom orders, as rescue vehicles are built on different chassis types. The chassis selected by the customer directly affects the shaft length as well as the choice of components and flanges. In hydraulic aerial platforms, the PTO Shaft transmits power from the vehicle’s power take‑off to the hydraulic pump, which generates the operating pressure for the system. The actual lifting movement is produced by the hydraulic cylinder. In fire‑fighting vehicles, the PTO Shaft transfers power from the chassis power take‑off to the water pump.

Vema Lift’s Purchasing Manager, Ilpo Taulio, appreciates S&N Cardan’s exceptionally fast delivery times and delivery reliability,
as these components are always ordered on a project basis. S&N Cardan’s production flexibility is extremely important to the cooperation, Taulio emphasizes, as the PTO Shafts are installed at an early stage of Vema Lift’s production process. Delivering the PTO Shafts within the critical time window ensures a smooth assembly process for us, Ilpo explains.
As another key factor behind the long‑term cooperation, he cites the high quality of the PTO Shafts, adding that during his tenure there have been no complaints related to the shafts.

Ilpo points out that although business in rescue equipment is often project‑based, S&N Cardan’s production is flexible also in terms of volume. A few years ago, Vema Lift received a series order for 11 machines from Bangladesh, which required several different shaft configurations, Ilpo explains. Assistance with the design challenges was provided by S&N Cardan, which quickly delivers strong technical support in power transmission and hydraulics. “Together, we considered which shaft solution was the right one,” he recalls.
The outlook for the future is good, Ilpo concludes, noting that Vema Lift’s quotation pipeline remains strong. In recent years, demand on the domestic market has been active, but the majority of business comes from international customers.
“Approximately 90 percent of our turnover comes from exports, and therefore it is important to have a reliable partner by our side,” he says.
